Jorgen Gustafsson received a licence in optometry 1978. After some years of private practice he worked for more than 16 years at the government Low Vision Clinic at the Ophthalmology Department in Jönköping, Sweden. During this time he was involved in education in the field of low vision in Scandinavia and some countries in Europe. In year 2000 he started low vision research and started the Low Vision Enabling laboratory at Lund University, Sweden. In 2004 he received a PhD in optometric rehabilitation at Lund University. In 2005 he became a member of American Academy of Optometry, FAAO. From 2006 – 2012 he worked as Lecturer and from 2009 as Associate Professor at the Department of optometry at Linnaeus University, Kalmar, Sweden. At present he works as product and development manager at Multilens AB, Goteborg, Sweden. From December 2014 he is affiliated to University of South-East Norway, as Professor II in vision rehabilitation at Department of Optometry and Visual Science.

Abstract

Prescription of optical Low Vision devices

This lecture will cover the most important parts in the low vision assessment. Then we will discuss the topic magnification and how to help the visually impaired to use short reading distances. Most of the time will be used to show simple and advanced case examples of optical solutions in low vision service. Case examples of new devices like Peli Prism, Sight Optimizer and new developed telescopes will be shown.
